Purpose
The purpose of Pitt County Department of Social Services (DSS) is to enable individuals to function at their maximum capacity, to become self-sufficient, to improve their standard of living, to learn to cope adequately with their problems, and to provide preventive services that will avoid family breakup and enable individuals to remain in their own homes. Pitt County DSS provides financial assistance and human services to all County residents who meet eligibility criteria. The three main program areas are Income Maintenance Programs, Social Work Programs and Prevention Services. Our programs are housed in three separate locations. Medicaid Expansion

Beginning Dec. 1, 2023, NC Medicaid will cover people ages 19 through 64 years with higher incomes. You may be able to get health care coverage through Medicaid even if you didn't qualify before. Please click the link below for more information

NC Medicaid Managed Care

Beneficiaries have several resources to help answer questions about their transition to NC Medicaid Managed Care. Those who want a reminder of which health plan they are enrolled in should call the Enrollment Broker at 833-870-5500 (TTY: 833-870-5588). Questions about benefits and coverage can be answered by calling their health plan at the number listed in the welcome packet or on the What Beneficiaries Need to Know on Day One fact sheet . Questions regarding arrangements for Medical Transportation should be directed to the beneficiary’s health plan. For other questions, beneficiaries can call the NC Medicaid Contact Center at 888-245-0179 or visit the “Beneficiaries” section of the Medicaid website .

Additionally, for issues that cannot be resolved with their health plans, beneficiaries can contact the NC Medicaid Ombudsman at 877-201-3750.

Crisis Chat
Integrated Family Services, PLLC (IFS) has expanded their services to include Crisis Chat, an online emotional support, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention service for the Trillium coverage area. Please click here to find out more detailed information regarding this service.

Mobile Crisis Team
When a person experiences a behavioral health crisis, a member of the Mobile Crisis Team will respond and meet the person wherever it may be - at home, at school, at work on in the community. Please click here to find out more detailed information regarding this service.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Block Grant Plan

Report Child/Adult Abuse or Exploitation
To make a report of child or adult abuse and/or exploitation, please call 252-902-1110 or 252-902-1111 and follow the appropriate prompts.

After Hour Emergency Calls
To report incidents of abuse or neglect after normal operating hours, call 252-830-4141. Your call will be answered by the Pitt County Sheriff’s Department. You should ask for the Social Worker on call.
